If you were born before the 2000s, you’ll certainly remember the end of the world madness, or simply Y2K. Due to a computer’s data bug, many people thought there would be a collapse of civilization. Anything containing a computer system had a “risk” (bank accounts, government records, etc.), leading many people to sell everything or end up in terrible circumstances.

Had it really happened, it would have spared us from many unpleasant things that came up after the 2000s. Ugly decoration items, terrible songs, trash movies, and many other awful things. Here goes the worst decorating ideas that wouldn’t have existed if the world had really ended in 2000 (and maybe it should have).

6 – Dishes On The Walls

Every family has special dishes for celebration dates. Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other holidays can be examples of it. Special dishes can be decorated specifically for a holiday or even for a particular family dinner. The point is: plates are made to be eaten from, aren’t they?

If you push your memory back to the 2000s, you’ll certainly see these flying saucers as decor on walls, instead of on tables or inside the cabinets, where they actually belong. Should we start displaying other household items on the wall, like perhaps a wine glass or toaster? Okay, maybe let’s exclude appliances from this…

5 – Keep Calm Posters

No question the keep calm moment was trendy early in the 2000s. Posters, notebooks, t-shirt quotes, and even tattoos (you believe it or not) were a hit.

The fact is: not necessarily for keeping anything calm, but to be cool, everybody had the KEEP CALM moment. And since then, we never kept calm again.

4 – Giant Home Theather

As smartphones are becoming bigger, sound systems are getting smaller and smaller. Big sound equipment is outdated and makes your house look a lit bit too cluttered.

Prefer the smaller equipment or even the built-in ones, so you can have not only a good sound experience but a great-looking house, too.

3 – Fringes

Fringes had their hit moments in history. They can be used either as a haircut or a decor item – although we don’t know exactly why that would be a good idea.

Whether used to split a room or to embellish a wall, the fringe is a staple of tacky decor.

The real question is: Why not a wall, or even a door? When talking about empty or open areas in your home, there are always much better solutions than these horrendous fringes.

2 – Chalkboard Wall

If you have kids at home, you know the nightmare it is when you see your freshly painted wall completely scribbled. It would be a dream to have a wall only for the kids, right?

NOT EXACTLY. The chalkboard will inevitably give out a kind of dirty feeling that can turn your dream into a real nightmare.  It sounds like a solution, but don’t fall for it. This type of wall is outdated and there’s a very good reason why.

1 – 2000s Inflatable Furniture

2000s inflatable sofas

You can blame the pop princess Britney Spears for this one. She was one of the influencers responsible for this unusual trend.

The sound of the skin touching the material is something to blush about, so to speak. If you have had one of those, you know what I’m talking about. We hope this trend never takes place again otherwise the only thing we can do is say: OOPS I DID IT AGAIN.

But in the end, it’s all about having fun. It’s your place, so you do you! That way, it can never go truly wrong… or can it? Make your space your own, that’s what to aim for.
